Love and Sandwiches
Mar. 28th, 2004 01:28 amJust got in from working a lovely wedding gig in Milwaukee. It's kind of wierd playing a gig like this for locals - yes you're the hired help but you're also sort of half-guest.
We got there a bit late, as traffic was worse than Josie expected, but we were still there more than 2 hours before our first scheduled set. I walked in and the right lens of my glasses fell out - the little screw had come out and I wasn't able to find it. So with great presence of mind, I pulled out my sewing kit and ran a doubled thread through the holes a few times and tied it off - not the most stable, but it kept them together for the evening. I have spares at home and can go get a new screw put in on Monday.
All the Wenches that were there were asked to help with the petal toss - When they were first introduced as 'Mr. & Mrs", showers of rose petals rained down on them from the balcony, tossed quite artistically my several members of local #34. Sir Clisto gave the 'Address to the Haggis", and there were scads of Bristol FOFers as guests. I recognized one from her cleavage - I was looking down from the balcony and couldn't see her face, but I'd know that rack anywhere. She's not called "Great Kate Roundbosoms" for naught.
Sets were well received, though I wasn't in the best voice - I'm allergic to roses! The bride is a florist, so there were flowers everywhere - on the hall, hanging from the ceiling, in ladies' hair, on the water fountains, even decorating the rest rooms. The Womens' had garlands on the counter, but the Mens had better - they even put flowers in the urinal! We discovered this when we overheard one of the groomsmen standing in the hall going "But I couldn't pee on the flowers!". Luckily, Vernon Lind was there with his digital camera, so we sent him in to investigate. It was really quite pretty, and I will post the picture when he sends it....The main colors were purple and green - purple and light-green-tinted roses, heather, etc. I've just never seen flower arrangements containing quite that much produce! (limes, green pears, and artichokes). Food was nummy, and the venue manager suggested I take home some of the leftover mini-sandwiches - I ended up with about a dozen, as well as a handful of limes!
So very romantic, lots of food, sold one CD, and made connections for some possible future gigs. Nappy time!
