Well, that's done
Aug. 24th, 2004 10:08 amUnemployment hearing is over. I think I acquitted myself well. Gave a concise timeline, and pointed out several inconsistencies in the documents that they submitted as "evidence". Firm said these had no bearing as they happened after the fact, but I stated that I addressed them because they had included them as part of their initial protest.
Fundementally, it comes down to whose side of the story the judge believes. One of the things I brought up was that their 'evidence' and statements are full of words ilke "believed" (We believed that she had quit) and "inferred" (We inferred from this that she..). I have no control over what they believed -all I can speak to is what I said, which I have date-stamped journal entries to back up.
For example, the firm stated that "In the days before the 12th, she told everyone in the office that she was leaving". What I really said was variations of "It looks like that I am about to be fired, and I may not have the opportunity to say goodbye, so I wanted to take the opportunity now to tell you how much I enjoyed working with you".
I'm still shaking. I don't really get 'stage fright", so I'm not very good at handling these kinds of nerves. I'm going out for a good long walk to get a haircut.
So, I should get a letter in about a week.
