Tis that time of year again
Mar. 17th, 2006 12:52 pmFor my annual St. Paddy's day rant. About how green-dyed Budwesier fails to fill me with ethnic pride. How much I hate "Amateur Night" and the stoopid drunks. But you can click back a year or so and get the same thing over without my having to type it again.
I brought my Maritime Festival CDs to work today, hoping to be able to burn them here, but apparently I can't . So I'll have to wait till I get my USB issue resolved before burning Josie and John their copies. I did rip them to the office 'puter so I can listen to them. Spent the morning listening to lovely music I can't understand.
But i have to put a big plug out there for all my Chanty-Singing friends to go and get yourself some David HB Drake. He's the official Chanteyman of the Wisconsin state flagship, and a really cool guy in the bargain - he was with the Ring of Steel a few years before I, so we have a bunch of friends in common. That in itself is reason to recommend him to you all. However, I'm sitting here listening to 'Fisherman's Beach', and I've been in tears at least 3 times and I'm only on the 5th track. 'For Stan' is a MUST - about Stan Hugill AND Stan Rogers. 'Shorelines' talks of a farmer looking out to sea and a sailor looking over the hills and how they each dream of living each other's lives. And 'Fisherman's Beach' says that sailors who don't wish to ever leave the seas, when they die, become gulls. (John, if you want to try 'Shorelines', you can, but then I get 'Fishermans Beach'!)
The weekend is dedicated to boring housework. Last weekend with the Maritime Fest and next weekend with ConGenial, I have major laundry and dishes to tackle, computer maintenance and mending to catch up on. Those little things that get dropped when you're full of busy.
