Color me impressed
May. 11th, 2006 05:16 pmOK - I'm probably the last person on my list to know about this, but just in case I'm not...
Yahoo Widgets is really nifty!
I know, usually toolbars and browser add-ins are irritating, but these are actually pretty cool. They are small and subtle, and you can always click F8 to pull them all up or hide them all.
You download the engine (just search "widgets" on Yahoo) and then get little pluggy-inny thingummies for an array of mind-boggling useful and/or silly tasks.
Yeah, I don't really need a butterfly or bouncing ball that I can play with on my desktop, or the live feed from a radio station in Austria, but here are a couple of cool ones I have on here now:
A little analog clock
a little moon-phase replicator (amusingly called "werewolftracker)
a little semi-transparent weather plot
a little semi-transparent calendar - (just so I can see what date next Thursday is without having to do math in my head)
A little CTA alert box that will tell me if there are any current problems I should know about
A little button that will pull up a list of the top 10 from my netflix queue
a little button that I can press to start and stop tack time tracking - VERY useful for those of us on billable hours
a little button that will pull up a random quote from the list of things an Evil Overlord should never do
There are a bunch of ones that would be useful for laptops too - about battery life, wifi strength, etc.
Anyhow, check them out!
