Jun. 17th, 2006 12:45 pmI think I scared my regular doctor's partner today.
She's a short perky blonde woman that I'd never met before - she joined the team while I was uninsured I guess. Since my doc is out of town she wanted to see me before she would write me any meds - I can completely understand that.
Well, I skipped the now-several-times-daily dose of albuterol this morning so that she could get an idea of how I sounded unmedicated. By the time I got there I was coughing and wheezing rather spectacularly. She said she could hear me from the other patient room down the hallway.
Not only did she refill everything I asked for, but she insisted that I take a nebulizer treatment then and there before she would even let me out the door. I'm to take the max dose of the anti-inflammatory inhaler for a week to get the swelling down. She also thinks I may still have a lingering lung infection from last month so she wrote me a script for an antibiotic too. AND she wants me to call her on Monday to let her know how I am doing, and for possible oral steriods. I think the regular meds will do the trick, but it's nice to know that I have options, and that my condition is being taken seriously.
I like her!
So I took my handful of prescriptions (6) over to the pharmacy - it's gonna be an expensive day. My Zyrtec isn't on the formulary so it's $50, but that's ok until I get my full physical and Dr Gordon and I can talk about possible alternatives.
Those nebulizer thingies are cool! Stuff tastes like ass, but after a few minutes of Darth Vader impersonation I felt light-years better. New-Doc was surprised at how quickly I went through the dosage, so I clued her in to my freakish lung capacity and over-developed diaphragm from my musical training.
I feel better than I have in months - and I'm sure that some of that is sheer relief at getting actual proper treatment again.
*yaaaaaay*
