Cool beans
Nov. 6th, 2006 03:09 pmHolidays can be so awkward.
As a mostly non-denominational pagan, I don't want to send "Christmas" cards, but nor am I 'in-your-face' enough to send everyone "Happy Solstice" cards. I was raised Christian, so I enjoy the traditions of decorating, baking, and presents. I've even participated in the ancient Jewish tradition of "going to the movies and ordering Chinese Food on 12/25"!
I've already volunteered to help bunny-sit while Fujoe's humans are out of town that week. When I temped I didn't mind working double-shifts on X-mas day - I got to make extra money and I felt better because I was helping people who wanted to spend time with their families.
At this job, we get Thanksgiving and that Friday, X-mas, NYD, and one other day from a selection first-come-first serve. I actually get to have the "official" day of the Solstice off! (yeah - I know it's around 6:20 on the 21st, but who's counting). I've always wanted to be able to stay up all night on the longest night of the year, and then watch the sun rise, but my schedule has never allowed it. I need to make a new Candle anyway, so maybe I'll make a formal ritual for a change. That'd be cool
