A simple way to give
Nov. 21st, 2006 10:27 amOver the past several years, I have made a point to try and take part in the Chicago SunTimes Season of Sharing project.
They get letters to Santa from low-income children and you get to go shopping for them. There is a spending limit of $25 per child, so no one feels left-out. These kids are in homeless shelters, in underfunded schools, and are generally the kind of kids who aren't going to get much if anything in the way of holiday gifts.
I don't have any younger relatives, so I get a big kick out of going toy-shopping! Plus, no matter what your religious persuasion, making a kid smile has to be up on the list of "good things to do".
So, go ahead - sign on - they will send you a letter, you send the gift by 12/20, and you get a nice thank-you letter from the kid as well.
I'm signing up - are you?

I hate cats!
Nov. 21st, 2006 01:27 pmok, not really - they are kind of cool.
But I hate them because once again they are ruining my holidays!
I am deeply allergic to them, and as such cannot attend ANY of the Turkey-day shindigs I have been invited to because they all come liberally seasoned with dander and fur.
Meh. I wonder if Pepper likes pumpkin pie?

Well - that put me in MY place!
Nov. 21st, 2006 09:14 pmI dragged poor Pepper out of her condo tonight for her ear-wash. Once she realized I had a good grip on her, she pretty much just sat there and took it, making only a token effort at escape.
However, once I released her, she shook her head, looked up at me, and then nipped my forearm. Just a little nip, as if to say "I may sit still and take it, but I certainly do NOT approve of this one bit!" Then she flounced off.
Hee hee. Such a little bundle of bunnitude!
