Remember a while back I wrote about a HS girl in Canada who found a rabbit that had been dumped in a large rabbit group in a public park. She spent most of the afternoon trying to keep the other rabbits from hurting her more, and Monday morning went down to get the poor thing. Kamilla ended up losing half of one ear and had some scarring but was healing up well, learning to trust again, and making friends with her other buns.

Well, I hadn't heard from her in a while, so I went looking for her. A couple of weeks ago her mom and mun's drunk boyfriend beat the shit out of her and kicked her out of the house - she ended up in the emergency room and briefly in a shelter. She is now living with her grandparents and trying to go on with her life. She has managed to find places for some of her rabbits, but they are being neglected and she is afraid to go back to the house. One died after a brief illness she thinks, and Kamilla was found dead. She doesn't know why.

I'm trying not to cry at work here. I wish there was somethng I could do, both for this brave confused girl and for her lost lonely bunny. I tried to encourage her - saying that I admired what she had done for Kamilla and that at least she had known love and healing before she had to go.

People suck sometimes.

First round of bunny-dating wasn't too successful, but I think part of that may well have been that she had a bit to learn about meeting other bunnies. It's not like she's had a lot of practice. Also, she probably remembers the smell of the shelter and was stressed out by that. All the volunteers were happy to see their "little puppy-bunny", and I think every volunteer there dropped in at some point to see how she was getting on with the boys.
