The BossMan is in the office today, and will be in Aspen for 2 weeks starting tomorrow.

The COO, usually a buffer between elderly-and-easily-irritated-BossMan and the rest of us is not back from vacation until tomorrow.

There has been a lot of flailing going on today. A large percentage is due to the fact that the staff today consisted of me and the accounting manager, and he kept giving me stuff back that she'd given to him, and vice-versa - resulting in a lot of "what's this? I've never seen it before" going on.

It is also at least 82 at my desk, and humid. (Outside it's 90+ and sticky)
The floodlights above my head are halogen bulbs. I feel like a burger.

I was planning on getting a haircut after work today, but the idea of going straight home and crawling into a cool bathtub is looking pretty good about now.

Got home tonight to discover tha6t my front door had been rather spectacularly forced (as in there is about a 2ft section of the door frame gone) and my apartment had been rather thorougly rifled.

Pepper is OK. Looks like missing are 2 dvd players (1 portable and 1 standard), my laptop (with nothing much useful on it) my universal remote, and my digital camera. Probably not all that much above my deductble.

They certainly took their time - they even went and found the power cable for the DVD player that was in a different room! They moved a lot of stuff, so I am hoping that the police can get some decent prints off stuff. They opened my closets and went through them - they moved the box of beads in my sewing room (in case it was jewelry?), and even left my prop pirate pistol on the futon - once they discovered it wasn't real I'll bet) They opened my psaltery case and apparently left it when they couldn't figure out what it was :)

Interestingly enough - there are some items of cheap jewelry on the floor that do not belong to me. I picked up one - a cufflink - before realizing that that wasn't too good an idea and I put it carefully down where it had been.

I am waiting for the detective to come and do an official canvas - the initial responders could only report that yes it did look like a real robbery and take my initial information.

I've called my landlord to replace the lock and doorframe and my renters insurance company to get the claim process started. Other than that, all I can do is sit here because I can't touch most of the TV stuff until the detective gets here.

But I'm ok. It's just stuff. Pepper and I are fine.

Cops were here - got one good print off of a plastic check folder they went through in my desk, but everything else had textured surfaces.

But most interesting of all - the neighbors across the hallway actually came face to face with the guy! Husband is on vacation this week and came home with groceries to find back door kicked in and the guy in his apartment. They called thye cops and apparently there was quite a scene with several squad cars around 12:30. But since my door didn't look broken (or maybe there were two of them and the other heard the commotion and stayed put) no one went into my place.

Also happily, all of the jewelry that was on my floor belonged to them - including her graduation ring from HS in Belize. Not expensive, but priceless to her.

So now I'm waiting for the engineer to come and repair my door. (he came while I was writing this - we've got it cobbled for the night but there is a real carpenter coming tomorrow to fix the neighbor's back door, so he can replace the frame on mine ay the same time.

The only thing I'm still worrried about is Pepper - when they were going through stuff they knocked a bag of horehound drops on the floor, and it looks like she ate at least half the bag. Last time she got into them she had a 2-day tummyache. She's nibbling on her greens, and I plan to get out fresh hay to encourage her to eat lots. Hopefully she'll just be a little wonky for a day or so.

I was robbed once 2 apartments ago and that was when I went through the whole "feeling violated" thing. Now, what with everythign else that's been going on, it's more like "great - one MORE way for the universe to piss in my cornflakes".
