While I was watching "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". Got the garland up, and added a few new ornaments to fill in for stuff that got broken over the past few years.
Since I lived in studio apartments for many years, and now I have a small furry curious roommate to worry about, I hang a decent-looking fake-pine garland with all my ornaments and stuff on it. In my last few apartments it hung over/around the bay windows, but now I have a sort of doorway between the two halves of my living room and it hangs there well enough. The ornaments and lights are mostly in blue and silver (For those who remember, they are the same Silvestri lights that dhoshko and I appropriated from striking the Waa-Mu show back in college), with a large-ish share of the ornaments being snowflakes. Some I made and some I bought. I have one of the "family" ornaments that always hung on our tree growing up - mine is a blue and red drum. And because I'm a big ol geek-girl, I also have a Hallmark commemerative Saturn 5 rocket that lights up and plays the actual recorded countdown from the Freedom 7 launch.
I'm not a huge fan of plain peppermint candy canes, so this year's are still red and white striped, but they are strawberry cheesecake flavored. I think last year I had chocolate mint. Pepper rather enjoyed the one that fell on the floor. Minty-fresh bunny-breath is nice. I really miss being able to get those clove-flavored ones - they were festive AND yummy! But it's been years since I've seen them in the stores.
I had a couple of lengths of red ribbon with gold wire edges, and I tied it around the shade of my main reading lamp. I have a burgundy/gold stocking that came free with somethign or other on my front door and the velvet one I made from velvet strips on the blinds. That's also where I hang my cards - one window for the bunny people and one for everyone else. I'm waiting to hang my mistletoe until AFTER my party. That's a complication we DON'T need.
This year, I decorated Pepper's house too! I have silver garland hanging on her cage, with yet another "free with something" red/green satin stocking above the door and a couple of plain paper mache ornaments at the corners. She seems fairly indifferent to them so far, although at the moment she is happily demolishing the bag I stored everything in.
Looks like we got somewhere around 5" of snow all told. It's hard to tell because last night's snow was shoveled, and then blew around, and then we got some more lake-effect snow this afternoon on top of it.
