question for Mac people

My boss is an elderly greek man who it horribly confused by technology.

He wants to be able to check his e-mail, and asked me to explain it to him.
(because right now we go through his e-mail, print the stuff that he needs to know about, and fax it to him at whichever of his homes he is at)

I need a bit of info about mac software and what it looks like (so I can say "click on the button up on the left that has a picture of a magnifying glass" kind of thing)

So I need to know
1) what is the web browser called and how do you open it?
2) how do I set up a bookmark?
3) how does he use his bookmarks?

The end goal is for me to set up bookmarks for his office and personal e-mail accounts and get the passwords saved, and explain to him in VERY simple terms how to use them.

I'm pretty good at explaining tech-stuff to non-tech people but I'm almost entirely Windows-based. His son has tried but he has absolutely NO pateince and as is typical for families they end up arguing about something totally unrelated to what they are trying to do.

Like I said I would last week, I reset this entire journal to "adult concepts".

The first entry geekymary saw that required her to click on an "adult content" LJ cut was me posting about whether I want to stay home and watch Frosty the Snowman.

I really to like vakkotaur's comment that "LJ seems to have teh Midas muffler touch. Everything they touch turns to mufflers".

There are now at least FOUR different communities that you have to look at if you want to know what the hell is going on. there is lj_biz, lj_policy, lj_2008 and occasionally on lj_announce and lj_news. (Yes, this is stoopid).

A couple of notes from the updates:

1) In the next code release, they are going to set all cuurent LJs of people over 18 back to the "no filtering" option. Like they should have in the first place. Pleh.

2) They are "working on a way" to notify you if an admin or moderator changes your entry to "adult content" or "adult concepts" because of a report or flag. Becaus right now if an entry of yours gets flagged they thy do not notify you so you may not even KNOW that a change was made, never mind have a chance to appeal. As far as I am concerned this is completely unacceptable - they can change things in my LJ and I won't even know? yeah - better fix that one pronto.

3) Even for users over 18, LJ has disallowed searching on a long list of topics. However, just as in Strikethrough when journals and communities were frozen because of a word in their interest, they have made themselves look even stupider. For example, by blocking the search term "spic", they have blocked searches for "Spice Girls" , "spicy foods", or "hospice". They've also blocked terms that would allow survivors of sexual abuse to find communities to help them heal. Apparently this is an ongoing issue from BEFORE the adult flagging system was inplemented. Geez people!

4) Once the Russian sale info came out, LJ posted very clearly that the company still remained in CA and thus was required to abide by all CA laws. This was in an attempt to reassure people about their personal info being held offshore. However,. a fairly large number of people have pointed out that the "official" statement about LJ's policy about hate speech clearly only states 3 protected categories, while CA law lists 8, including “race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, gender, or sexual orientation”. Can’t wait to see how they deal wthe things being flagged that deal with those issues. Lawyers are probably lining up and drooling....

I like LJ - it’s easy and I have a lot of friends here. Plus I only have a free account. I’m trying to take the same attitude about all this as I take with Chicago politics - i KNOW it’s messed up, and the flailing is occasionally amusing to watch as long as it doesn’t affect me directly.
