Surviving St. Patricks day
Mar. 17th, 2008 08:52 pmWe were terribly early, so we sat in the Spunky Dunkers donut shop for a while. Then we drove the entire parking garage next to Durty Nellie's without finding a single public parking space. The owner suggested that we wait till the guys outside finished taking the tent down and the just park in front, but they were still dismantling when we were about to go on, so we and the Leos parked in the loading zone for 3 hours (with management's permission) while we performed.
Sets were actually more audible than last year - lots of talking but no basketball. There were actually people paying attention from all the way at the bar! Sold 2 cds, one to somoene we didn't know.
Good idea - being early for a gig.
Bad idea - being 12 HOURS early for a gig.
The poor bastards who were scheduled to go on just after midnight showed up at noon. Oopsies. Guess you really DO need to actually read your contracts once in a while.
Then hit the road for Crystal Lake and Duke O'Briens, with a stop at JimmyJohns for munchies. There is actual stage space there! There was also a 2.5 hour gap in their schedule so we helped them out by going on 20 minutes early. Didn't sell any CDs but we had a couple of people paying actual attention. (We pretty much expect to be audio wallpaper at gigs like this)
Then it turns out that there had been a mixup and we had to go back to Nellie's to get the check - luckily it was pretty much on the way. While I was waiting, I was amused to see someone ELSE get blown up by the bagpipe band wandering through their set.
Longday is looooong. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the way things went. And I really like a schedule that allows us to be paid and on our way home before the really stupid drunks start acting up. Some guy taped a bit of the Nellie's set and says it'll be up on YouTube later this week - I'll post a link when it turns up.
Thanks to all who showed up, even those who just waved on their way in to see Molly and the Tinker in the other room. We may forgive you someday. Buying a CD would help.
