The weekend that was
Mar. 29th, 2008 10:03 pmI skipped gaming on Friday in favor of a break. I have a lot of basic "shit" that has to get done and not enough time to do it, plus I'm been a bit low on emotional "spoons" all week, so I decided to take Friday to have a quiet dinner, take all my vitamins and a long hot bath, and go to bed early. This seems to have had a slightly positive effect.
It's not so much that I get physically tired is that I end up with so many "things I need to remember/get done/etc" that sometimes I really need some "nothing time" - time when nothing is scheduled and everything is put on hold while you take a mental breather while the reserves build up again.
This morning I met up with a guy from Geek2Geek for a visit to the Field Museum. Went to the'Mythical Creatures" exhibit, which was very cool. My favorite part was where they had a table where you could arrange sections of a mammoth skeleton (over guides printed on the table) to make either a mammoth or a "giant" - it made it really easy to see where the ideas came from.
"Hey Bob, I just dug this thing up in the yard - what d'ya suppose it is?
"Well Jimmy, it puts me in mind of a story my grand-dad used to tell me...."
Had a bit of an embaressing moment, when one of those "random people who look vaguely familiar from conventions" saw me chatting with a short-ish stocky bald black guy and thought he was Blur. Oopsies.
He seems like a nice enough guy - no chemistry at all but certainly someone interesting to do the occasional touristy museum-crawl with (He lives in Merrilville and works in South Holland). I had prepared myself with an imaginary dinner meetup as an "out" in case, and ended up sticking with it because really, I've seen most of the Field stuff buckets of times so once I checked out the new things and did a bit of walkabout, my feet were tired and I was pretty much done for the day.
Came home and caught a quick nap before setting up my Earth Hour stuff (turning ALL the lights out, remembering to close the microwave, and turning the computer off at the power strip) and then headed out to do laundry. Yet another exciting Saturday night in Wendy-land.
Gonna sleep in a bit tomorrow morning and then get some work done. I have one last set of docs I need for a mortgage pre-approval, and I put it off so far that I'm not going to be able to do the CPAN lottery on Tuesday night. But I need to get off my tuckus and get that done. My filing is waaaay backed up, and I have a couple of demos and CDs to get out and a tickler e-mail to some faires we sent stuff to already. I have some wall file pockets I need to put up, my batheroom sink drain is backed up again, and the litterbox needs changing. We have a show tomorrow night at Molly's Place in Mokena, so I also have to write up the set lists, clean my whistles, and figure out what to wear before the boyz turn up for a quick run-thru of a couple new bits before we head down there.
