I has a grumpy

While I understand that putting a padlock on a broken back gate to our building is necessary.

But the owners should have keys. I came down 3 flights of stairs to take out my trash and had to walk completely around the building to get to the bus. That alley is too tight to get a laundry cart through, so I asked how I was supposed to get out with it this evening.

Board president says "which is more important - your laundry or your safety?" . I replied - "we can have both - just install a lock that we have keys to!"

So I get to call her to let me out and back in tonight. Oh Joy. I also asked when the next board meeting was, because while I understand that these issues need to be addressed, as an owner I should have input into them. She said she didn't know.

This is why I suspect that I'm going to end up on the board within a couple of years.

A better reason than most

msimon777's son is in kindergarden, and they have talked about the election.

The teacher shared the student's thoughts.

"Jacob said that he would vote for Obama because, "...he says more not dumb things."

this is why I investigated the board's finances before I moved in

I just had the following conversation with the President of my condo board

Z: Yeah , I just took a look over the bylaws and there was supposed to have been a board meeting on October 1st, and we were all supposed to get 48 hours notice of it.

A: Well, I have to tell you - no one really ever comes to meetings.

Z: *blinks* Umm - that doesn't matter - you have to have them anyway, so that owners can come if they want to, and they can't if you don't give them notice.

Sigh.

On the other hand, I now have a key to the "temporary" back door lock, and I just had a nice chat with Alberto on the 2nd floor of the Clark Street side, who helped me with the lock (he hadn't known about it either) and he pretty much agreed that while the board does mean well, they really need to be more transparent about how they do things.

He said "yeah, but they are on there because no one else wants to do it"
Me: *puts up hand* Hello!

So they get a pass (as opposed to anything I need fixed of course) but if I don't see a notice of a board meeting on my door by December 29th, there's going to be hell to pay.

McCain has conceded

President Obama.

I'm tearing up in front of my computer screen.

I know this isn't going to immediately solve all our problems. The promised "Change" is going to be some time in coming.

But we have someone coming in to the White House who is a reasonable man. Someone who supports the rule of law. Someone who is willing to listen carefully to both sides of an issue before making a decision. Someone who can admit when he is wrong, and can adapt to new information. Someone I trust. Someone the rest of the world trusts.

It's like a weight is off my shoulders. I don't have to be afraid that my access to health care will be limited because I happen to be a woman. That my rights to practice the faith of my choice will be curtailed.

I'm sure I'll post more later, as I process this. Right now I'm going to go have a good cry.

And I hear McCain is being gracious in his speech. Maybe this country can begin to heal.
