wendyzski: (fuck short chick)
They admitted her to the hospital last night. Aparently they took one look at her and said "We know why YOU'RE here!" and while she was lying there as they processed her paperwork she was the excuse for a merry round of "Guess how low her hemoglobin is" among the techs and doctors.

She said "Yeah - apparently your tongue isn't supposed to be white!"

*resists urge to beat her senseless*

So anyway, while she is being taken care of, it was serious enough that they decided she needs SIX units of blood and TWO of plasma. Theyv'e got four in her now and are fiddling with the plasma. Because her veins were in bad shape they had an awful time setting the needles so she's got IVs in both arms as of this morning. But at least her tongue is pink again!

She doesn't want me to post her phone number yet because they are still coming in regularly to fiddle with her so it's hard for her to be on the phone. I got kicked off so she could straighten her arm out for the nurse.

I'll call back around lunchtime to see how things are going, and will update then.

Just talked to her again.

They've managed to get nearly 4 units of blood and one of plasma into her so far, but it's going slowly. She was originally supposed to be released today, but lately she's noticed that when she says "and when I get home tonight" they are giving her funny looks, so we're not sure. She's gonna fight hard to get home - not just because of the mom-stuff but also to get some actual sleep.

Doctor:Well you get a good night's sleep and I'll see you in the morning
Ari: Have you ever BEEN in a hospital?

(In addition to having the usual hospital noise and fuss, she's still got IVs in both arms - one for blood and one for fluids - so she can't sleep on her side or stomach like she usually does. And "breakfast was gross")

They think it's some kind of girly-issues. They've had the OB-GYN that delivered Breena 4 yrs ago come down to consult, and done a couple of ultrasounds. She's been bleeding more than "normal" for a long time, but I guess it snuck up on her so she didn't notice how bad things were getting. Apparently her body got very adjusted to that kind of blood levels, because they arent quite sure how she managed to not pass out with hemo levels that low.

She's covering well with humor bet you can tell she's tired and scared. Charles is with her, and Chelsea is home from school to watch Breena. I'll check again later this afternoon.

fairly late tonight but tonight.

As of 5:15 ET they were about 3/4 through bag #5 of blood, and agreed that unless there are any unexpected surprises they'd send her home to her own bed after bag #6 with outpatient followup mid-next week. Mostly what she needs most at this point is lots of sleep and some non-hospital food. (apparently lunch was no less nasty than breakfast was - but Charles ate it anyway. They sent down for a cheeseburger for her) I read off the list of good wishes/smooches/etc from all the various posts so she knows you are all thinking about her.

So she will be able to update herself soon - though don't look for anything until tomorrow evening at least while she rests.
