I have my new "Victorian Boots" - a $5 pair of ice skates off of E-Bay with the runners taken off and the screw-holes in the sales patched with E-6000..

Of course, right now they are white with black soles/heels/edges, but what color do I WANT them to be?

I have a black pair of heeled granny boots - kind of uncomfy for long-term wear but damned sexy. I also have a pair of recent-vintage pointed-toe heeled booties that aren't really victorian but could do in a pinch - deep red and $7 on clearance.

So I was thinking something other than black at least. Maybe a nice deep grey, or a navy blue? I'm generally thinking darker colors since I have big feet and light colors tend to make them look like pontoons.

I also was reading The Difference Engine the other day and the phrase 'brass-heeled dollyboots' sticks in my head. I was considering painting the edges and heels a brass or copper color.

I have 2 outfits in progress so far.
The first is the Mother Morphia one, and it's in black, dark purple/antique gold, pale brown w/ecru lace, and grey top hat (plus the copper/brass/brown/glass of the glove).

The second is a more casual one, sort of a working lady inventor thing, and still in the early stages. The skirt fabric is a chocolate brown with very fine navy and grey stripes, and I have either a white or tan shirt, black corset and a cream-colored apron (appropriately smudged of course) with a scarf over my hair and goggles pushed up on my forehead.

Mind you, while I want something that *could* go with these, I'm sure that I will also find excuses to wear them other times as well, because they will be cool.

So, any thoughts?
