Notes on Marcon panels
May. 12th, 2009 03:40 pmHave my schedule, and I ended up on things I knew about and also something I'd forgotten I'd agreed to.
Friday 8:30 - Con Sociology 101 (How to meet people at conventions). Mod by
peterbeerslayer.
ladyariyana and I were pondering making up demo props. "This is called 'soap'...". We have a syllabus and everything!
Friday 11:30 PM - Scared Hot - Sex and Horror.
The suggestion list says "Why are sex and horror often enmeshed? What is it about sexy vampires, seductive shape-shifters, and assorted creatures of the night who worm their ways into the protagonists' hearts and beds? Do we fear sex itself, possibly due to ingrained cultural guilt? Or is it the romantic surrender that is inherently dangerous and scary? Why?
Now, I'm one of the most vanilla girls in the world, but anyone who has ever worked a pro haunt can attest that scared people get horny - it's an adrenaline thing. Combine that with a couple of tablespoons of good old raised-catholic-girl "Oh no I coudn't - unless you're too powerful to resist what ever shall I do?" and I should be able to hold my own on there. :)
Saturday 11:30 AM - Stage Presence and Presentation.
Anyone who was at last year's Masquerade knows why I'm on this. My sound went out and I did the whole presentation cold - and yet people in the audience were later asking me where I had my mike hidden! Yay for preparation and quick thinking.
Saturday 1-ish to 3-ish - Iron Costumer (Judge)
Last year was a fiasco - someone messed up setting up the scoring to be automatically done on a laptop, and the results came up in reverse order. No one realized this until AFTER the "winner" was announced. We all felt about 1/2 tall, and I had friends on all 3 teams so I felt just awful about the 'you-won-no-really-you-didn't" thing that I spent the next few hours hiding in my room so I didn't have to face anyone.
But hopefully we learn from our mistakes and appparently it didn't totally kill interest - in fact we're going up to 4 teams! I 'm a judge again and they don't have the other 2 judges chosen yet, so they'll be hunting down suckers...I mean evaluating candidates... at the con.
I'm not competing in the masquerade this year but I'm debuting the new Steampunk rig Saturday night. Still have some fiddly bits to finish but I should be able to get to those this weekend.
