Subject to change of course, but here it is.

Note that the pre-reg deadline (you save $10) is tomorrow, so take a look over there soon.

This came up on another community I'm on, so I thought people might want to know my favorite recipes for stage blood.

For the basic stuff that can get in your mouth if necessary:

  • Corn syrup for the base
  • red food coloring - add drop by drop as that shit is STRONG!
  • a few drops of blue food coloring
  • chocolate syrup for opacity.

Basically you mix it up - if you need a lot use a pitcher - and check the color by drizzling a couple of drops at a time on your inner arm. You know what it's supposed to look like.

If you need to get it on your clothes and be able to wash it off with relative ease, sub Woolite for the corn syrup. As long as you don't let it dry it will wash out fairly easily. You can also get it in your mouth if you have to without actually dying, although it tastes pretty awful.

A "switchblade comb" with the tines covered in aluminum foil or foil tape with a dropper secured along the back side looks pretty realistic especially if you practice. If you have a prop plastic knife, you might be better with a small tube and a concealed squeeze bulb.

For blood packs:
If they need to take some abuse before bursting, condoms are a good choice. Generally they don't break until they are supposed to. Simply fill and tie off the end. It's a good idea to have something on hand to burst them when required as those suckers can be pretty strong. Also, if you drop one, it will bounce. (Yes I've seen this happen, and I have the video.) Don't get lubed ones (liquid or powder) or they won't stay tied - you'll have to rinse them first. (Yes I've done that as well.)

For something larger or simpler, a zippy bag does just fine - just test it for leaks first. Bits of toilet paper or tissue paper added to the mix look like bits of flesh when the bag is burst, and partially filled condoms look like intestines. When we disembowled [livejournal.com profile] geekymary for the vampire show, she had a large zippy bag secured to her back under her cardigan sweater.
