I attended a lovely Soiree at the home of one of the Steampunk folks I met at Windycon. He's definitely coming at it from the angle of "goths who have discovered the color brown", but he put together a wonderful guest list of artists, musicians, and other interesting folks. Once [livejournal.com profile] seamstrix and her husband left I was clearly the oldest one there, but I had a chance to chat with some very interesting people about an insane variety of subjects.

Let us observe a brief moment of silence for the last of my bottle of Old Potrero, but it was certainly well appreciated by educated palates - in proper nosing glasses. The host even pulled the empty bottle out of the trash for souvenier purposes (He is a scotch rep). There were lovely nibbles (including a wonderful English cheddar) and a nice selection of wines as well as interesting conversation.

As our host said at one point "This is the kind of thing we're supposed to be doing now that we can".

Note to self though - next time check the bus schedules before you leave. I missed the last eastbound Irving Park bus and ended up blowing $5 on a cab to get over to Clark from Western. There are many ways to get home from that neighborhood - use them.

Now this is getting silly...

Went to the doc yesterday and got my standard "course of prednisone and an antibiotic from column B" treatment for my lung ick. (Doctor heard me coughing in the waiting room and called out "Is that xxxxxx or Wendy?" - yes she knows my cough) Prednisone is evil stuff but it is really the only thing that works when things get this bad. Started feeling better in a few hours, but was awake until 7AM. Blergh. Poor Pepper is utterly confused by my schedule and has now taken to lurking in the kitchen just in case it might be mealtime now. Bunnies are creatures of routine.

Also got a bottle of coedine cough syrup to have on hand for when things get really bad. I'm sensitive to coedine - I can't take it at all in tablet form and half the adult dosage knocks me flat and gives me a hangover. But sometimes you just need to stop coughing long enough for things to start healing in there. And since who knows how long I'll be able to afford COBRA (even with the subsidy) it seemed best to go ahead and fill it. Didn't take any last night (bad idea after a few drinks) but it's good to know it's there for when I need it.

Gonna rest today and hopefully the meds will have things under control by tomorrow - I have GOT to start cleaning and organizing in here but was afraid to stir up more dust and fluff with already-compromised lungs. I'm breathing better but between all the coughing and post-nasal-drip my throat is pretty raw. (No rehearsal this week guys - but next week for sure!)
