May. 2nd, 2011 07:42 pmI'm pretty uncomfortable with some of the joy that I'm seeing at the death of Osama Bin Laden.
Am I relieved that he's gone = yes. In the same way that I'd be relieved if someone killed a rabid dog. Glad that it can't hurt anyone any more, but sad that it had to be killed.
Plus in the grand scheme of things, we have to deal with those who will most certainly try to turn him into a martyr, as well as those who just plain hate the USA because all they know about us is what they have been told.
I just don't know.
"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
