Not looking good
Renfield didn't come out to play last night, so I made sure to dig him out and check on him this morning. It's not looking good.
He is losing weight again, his left back leg is sticking out at a funny angle, and he had poo stuck to his butt and pee stains in his fur. I washed off his butt, and he didn't struggle as much as usual. He was licking the faucet handle, so I gave him some water from my hand. If he's that dehydrated that means he's not coming out to eat or drink, and that's really bad.
I got him clean and dried off, I took his little house away so I can monitor him a bit better, and changed the bedding in that section of the cage. I put a pile of food and a milk-bone right in front of him, and moved his water bottle to hang right above him. Then I covered him with a pile of the fleece scraps that I've been giving him for extra fluffy bedding, and gave him last night's dose of pain meds.
So he's about as comfy as I can make him. If he makes it through the day, I will probably have to have him put to sleep this weekend. He's obviously getting worse, not better, and he's clearly uncomfortable.
Sigh. It's gonna be hard.

I'm so sorry, hon. Please know that you are a wonderful hamster-mama, and you have given (and continue to give) him a wonderful life.
