My mom did my holiday shopping on her trip to Ireland last summer. This is good because she got nifty things but possibly bad because the hand-knit cable wool sweater she got me would probably fit half the band at once. I have sent an e-mail to the company on the tag to try and find out if there is a US distributor or something I can work with to get something I can actually wear. Nifty things were also silver claddagh earrings with Connemara marble accents and a book of ballads (about half of which I know already but this includes chords and stuff too). And of course, the Life savers Sweet Storybook that I have gotten every year since I can remember - though I am sad that they don't have Wintergreen in them anymore.
From my brother I got a teapot suitable for loose tea (mmmm), the Sting/Downald CD "Songs from the Labyrinth", and The Tudor Tailor. I think there is one more thing coming, as one company accidentally send the bill to his name at my address, but that hasn't actually arrived yet. But the local post office couldn't find one of the other boxes I got a slip for (dvd-club stuff) so who knows when or if it will arrive.
MyAunt and Uncle sent me what is becoming an annual tradition - some kind of holiday decoration/tchotchke and a check. Last year it was a snowman tapestry hanging - this year it is a kind of scary contraption with a stuffed santa face that had a decorated hostess towel hanging down underneath it like a skirt and a tree-shaped potholder buttoned to the back of his head. Apparently Santa is a transvestite with a foliage fetish.
Pepper is very pleased with the assortment of cardboard shipping boxes and the large gift bag. She's so easy to shop for! We go to the vet tomorrow for hopefully her last follow-up for the ear infection. I'm fairly sure it's gone - she's much more active and mischievous than before, and has now decided that head-pets and ear-rubs are rather nice indeed.
The card display is of truly impressive proportions this year. Most of the bunny people sent pics of their buns too - many wearing santa hats and looking rather put-upon. Today's mail included cards from Newfoundland and Holland! I also giggle when people I know don't know each other end up picking the same card. This year it's Bruce and Susi who sent the same card as Tom & Chris Kastle - a lovely picture of chickadees against gold tree branches. I even got a card from one of the ladies at the seniors building I worked at from 96-00. It's good to know that KK is still going strong!
I didn't end up baking any cookies- since all the parties I got invited to I couldn't attend due to either transport or cats, I'd have no one to share them with. So I am contenting myself with the small but yummy munchies from the office gift baskets - those "caramel cookies" turned out to be some nice brown-sugar shortbread thingies that went very well with hot cocoa. I did pick up an apple pie at the local ethnic grocery for a suitably holiday-ish change from cold cereal for breakfasts.
Aside from the vet visit tomorrow morning and a grocery outing at some suitably off-hour so as to avoid being crushed to death by last-minute shoppers, I have nothing to do until tuesday. It will be a nice quiet weekend of naps, nibbles, bubble baths, bunny snuggles, books, and dvds.
