I R electrickly talented!
I fixed the cord on my second AC unit!
Not sure if Pepper got to it or if it was just wear and tear from the move, but the AC unit I put into my bedroom window wouldn't work when I installed it last week. I found a couple of exposed wires in the cord, so I quickly unpluged it. Finally got round to picking up some electrical tape over the weekend.
Thank goodness for Stage Lighting A20, where I learned enough to do simple wiring repairs and installations without blowing myself up. I cut out the damaged section of cord, stripped the wires back at both ends, spliced each wire (matching the colors), and then electrical-taped the hell out of each one. Tested it an YAY cold air! So I taped the whole lot together and now I have a working AC unit in my bedroom. There is an outlet directly under the window so the shortened cord won't have any stress on it.
I know it's not too hot yet, but it IS very humid, and with my recent breathing difficulties I'm a LOT more comfy in AC right now.
