There were some pretty funny moments thoughout this last week.
Friday morning, I was so out of it that when I put up my hair, I managed to get the pull-cord from the overhead light into the bun. Started to walk away and *tug*. Yeah - not very bright.
When I decided to make the public post Wednesday night, I took my laptop to the hospital business center. But in my haste that morning, I had not brought a phone or internet cable. The front desk will not lon me one because it's after business hours. Well, being a devious and resourceful lass, I remember that there are several phones in the lobby that direct dial to taxi companies. So I snuck down and nicked one of the handset cords. I made my post, checked on IM, and then snuck back down to put the cord back.
As I said, I was out of it a lot these last few days. I was IMing with
post_toastie and I mentioned that I had gotten an actual 9 hours of sleep. Then I typed something about "the clam before the storm". There was a pause, and then a reply of "I think you need another 9".
When I got the word that she was gone, I went to go sit down on the couch for a good cry and a bit of pillow-screaming. Looked at the box of tissues, and dismissed them as inadequate. Got a towel. That was just about enough.
Then there was The Saga of
Remember when electronics were going to make our lives easier?
Mid last week, when the strain of keeping her secret was really becoming critical and so hard to bear, I mentioned to one of the few in the know "If she does recover, I may strangle her myself for making me do this". Seriously - keeping Gov't security info secret while I was working for the TSA was a piece of cake compared to
I had to go back and reset some things on the CelebrateJanet yahoogroup, but I think I fixed the poll options now. And I ate actual food for both lunch and dinner, which is an improvement. Napped a lot, but also this is the first day that I have spent alone with my thoughts since Wednesday. I've had a lot of IM people, but I needed to have some alone time too - just to let things kind of settle to their new positions.
But I'm watching 'Supernatural' tonight.

- Wednesday morning I saw the post on Janet's LJ that said "Wendy please call me".
- Hrm - I don't have his number. Maybe I'll call Janet's number and hope he picks up.
- Grr - and no voice-mail. IM
post_toastie - Do you have Jake's number?
- He doesn't, so he calls
reedrelay, who has a new phone and hasn't transferred all the number yet.
- Grr. So
post_toastie remembers that Jake's dad is a dean at Pitt, so he googles his office number
- I call the office number and explain to the secretary who I am and that I need Jake's number.
- Secretary gets dad who gives me phone number.
- I call Jake, and find out that I ought to get to the hospital. I leave.
- At the hospital, Jake actually says "I'd have thought that at the very least
post_toastie or
reedrelay would have called". I explain that it seems no one actually has his number, since we all usually communicate by e-mail.
- At various points over the next day or so, both
post_toastie and
reedrelay call or IM me to get Jake's number from me.
