No, not shopping for sticky books. This is being sticky while book-shopping, at the Newberry Library's book fair.

The stacks were pretty well picked over wince this has been going on since Thursday, but I still found some fun(for me anyway) reads.

I was also amused to find so many text-type historical and theatre books that I already have in my library. Not surprised, just amused.

Anyway, for under $12 I acquired:

  • a VHS copy of the American release of the original Mothra, to add to my fairly impressive daikaiju collection

  • Shogun, in paperback. Now that I know quite a lot about the period, I expect a lot of giggles from this one.

  • Antonie Fraser's The Warrior Queens.

  • The Costumer's Handbook - just because I should probably have it for reference

  • The Cheese and The Worms by Carlo Ginzburg. I have a copy of his The Night Battles from a college course on European Witchcraft, but this was his first major work that I'd always meant to read.

  • and The Two - a biography of the "original" Siamese Twins, Chang and Eng. Should be an interesting read.

Why yes, I am a big ol' geek - why do you ask?
