I went to Walgreens at lunch to get some halloween candy for my desk.

They were putting the X-mas decorations up.

WILL YOU PEOPLE STOP IT? YOU'RE LETTING ALL THE HOLIDAY OUT!!!!

No one else at work is dressing up, but they not only said I could, but when I demurred about the "really fancy outfit" because I can't dress mysely, two of them offered to help me.

Guess I get to be the office freak show tomorrow. I just have to figure out what kind of heels I need to wear to compensate for not wearing my farthingale. Otherwise I won't fit behind my desk.

Saw the same thing last night when I went to my local Walgreens. Can't we at least put away the Halloween costumes and candy first, before breaking out the candy canes and talking trees?

Tomorrow I'll probably show up at the office disguised as a "corporate citizen" but after hours I'll don the cloak and black mask and take my kids out for Trick or Treats.

I agree. I went to Target and decided to look for last-minute goddies for my costume, and had to hit the CLEARANCE section because all the x-mas stuff was where the Halloween stuff had been.

I am one of maybe 5 people dressing up in my office. I HAD to dress up, I found a costume that was perfect for Little Bo Peep! And I collect sheep, so... too perfect!

The neighbor across the street put up Christrmas lights. Oh, there are Halloween decorations that are seen during the day but invisible at night as the green and red lights--how halloweenie--flicker. I guess that it could be for Halloween...but I'll bet they're still there in January!

How nauseating. I've heard a couple of Christmas commercials. A while back, I read an article that said retailers were surprised that consumers were not interested in doing their Christmas shopping in September, despite lower prices. I refuse to think about Christmas until December. Christmas does not come before Halloween, ick. Enjoy the costume-age! I don't think I can wear funny clothes, corsets don't work in the lab too well.

Shopko had the Christmas stuff up the day after the Labor day. We rest for back to school on July 5. I am mad that Halloween gets shoved away.

I saw the first Christmas items for sale in AUGUST. It's gotten to the point where I hate the holiday.

Call me an old-fashioned fuddy-duddy, but my particular touchstone came from living on Long Island as a kid -- the Christmas season doesn't start until Santa shows up at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I do zero organized Yuletide shopping until that point, though I will pick up 'that would be perfect for X' gifts all year round.

Retail stores are about milking the cash (checks, credit, etc.) out of you so they can turn a profit. Most (if not all) stores turn a profit in ONE month out of the year. Anything that they can do to extend the prophet season is fair game to them. There's an easy way to fight it. Don't buy holiday cheer in September! You would not believe the number of people who complain about this and then buy the stuff anyway. If it doesn't sell until after Turkey Day, it won't be stocked until about a week before Turkey Day. Of course, these are probably the same people who voted for Bush "because he was going to win" and are now complaining about his policies....
