Well, at least I did useful stuffs

wendyzskiIn spite of being unable to get to the mixing session, I did get a lot of work done on the CD stuff.
Having some uninterrupted time with Photoshop and not needing to put any braincells towards half-listening to the music, I was able to figure out some things that have been puzzling me. Remember, I have NO formal training in graphic design - I just have a good eye and a very visual imagination. So when Photoshop starts talking about "layers' and whatnot, my eyeballs kind of glaze over. I just wanted to paste my stuff and then be done with it.
Once I figured out that you basically have to think in terms of each "layer" being a transperancy with only ONE thing on it, it started to make sense. (again, this may be obvious to graphics people, but I'm an admin - I type stuff and all I have to work with is the Help file).
I think I made real headway on the booklet - it looks great on the screen at least. I'll pop the files on to my thumb drive and print them out on Monday to see for sure.
All of the Minstrosity CDs had handmade or craft paper as the backdrop - thus being able to refer to them as "The brown one", "The blue one" and "the green one". I wanted something similar but different, so I scanned a piece of tapestry fabric I've had sitting around waiting to become a bodice someday, and stuck it in the scanner. Color-corrected a bit and it makes an interesting but fairly neutral backdrop - mostly greyish/taupe with elements of plums, blues and greens. Any readability issues on the plain text should be solved by the layer of semi transparent light-ish color that I lay over it and then put plain black text on top.
I wasn't entirely uninterrupted, though. The lack of background noise and my immobility made Pepper feel comfy enough to approach me. She would hop up on the couch and then on my back (I was lying on my tummy on pillows working on my laptop) and wander up and down my back and legs. A couple of times she hopped off my shoulder and on to the keyboard - like "HEY! Pay attention to ME not that clicky thing!!" :)
Tomorrow is busybusy. I have my "Homebuying 101" class tomorrow from 10-1. I'm going to take the bus and go a little early so I can hit the library that is a block or so away. Did I mention we were going to have wind chills of -20, and that the zipper on my down coat is busted? Ick.
Then I head home and do a little bunny-wrangling. It's Spa Day over at Red Door, and Pepper needs a good grooming and a nail trim. We've been getting on so well that I'm willing to pay a bit to have THEM do it, so that she will be mad at THEM and not me - plus all the money goes to shelter programs. I got an I-go for a couple of hours, and I'll go get the car, crank the heat while I bring it back to the apartment, and wrap Pepper's carrier in a light blanket to keep off the worst of the chill from door to door. Drop her back home afterwards, and then hit Target to spend a gift card and Jewel for some groceries. I might do some laundry in the evening, depending on just how gruesome it is ourtside by evening, and hopefully I'll get my hair re-red-ified.

And shopgoodwill.com totally rocks. I got a docking station for my laptop for $21 including shipping, and if all goes well I'll have a dirt-cheap copy of The Fiddler's Fakebook in a little while.
