A couple of days ago someone made a post about how important it is to know what to do in medical emergencies in the time BEFORE the EMTs get there.
About half an hour ago, the attorney in our office called my name. He didn't say anything else, so I kept working. I walked over to the fax machine about 2 minutes later and he got my attention - he was beginning to go into a seizure. He asked me to call 911 so I did. I helped him at first into a chair (as it seemed to be localized) and then to the floor as it progressed. I was able to get a couple of details out of him (that it was a recent development and "I have a brain thing") to give the paramedics.
It seemed to be easing so I left him with 2 other people while I alerted Security that an ambulance was on the way. Apparently he had some trouble breathing while I was gone but they called 911 again for instructions. Once the EMTs got there, I was able to give them as much info as I had, along with his full name and home address (torn out of my copy of the company directory).
Once that was done I got out of their way and went through his desk to look for his girlfriend's contact info - couldn't find that but found the suite number for the secretarial service he used and went up to see them and it turned out they had it.
COMB was back from lunch by then so he called the GF, while COMB's son prepped to go to the hospital with Bob. Apparently GF says he had a seizure about 15 days ago and had a brain tumor removed about 15 years ago. She had already set up appts with some neuros about this, and they happened to be with docs at the hospital he's on his way to. So in reasonable short order the patient, his advocate, and his records will all be in the same place - the situation still sucks, but this is the best way to get started working on it.
Could have been a lot worse
