I just get more and more annoyed with the draconian measures that our government keeps putting in place "for our safety". If it's not passing laws allowing agencies to do everything from checking out your library book history to holding you indefinitely without saying why - now it's fingerprinting incoming visitors.

Now, I would actually be okay with the fingerprinting stuff, if they were doing it to EVERYBODY - that would be an irritation but at least nonimally fair. But no, there is a big list of countries (which just happen to be mostly northern european countries full of white people) that get a pass, while everyone else gets hassled. Sounds like legalized discrimination to me. Some "Land of the Free" we have going here.

I like what [livejournal.com profile] misia said in her journal today:

"Personally, I have begun to ponder forming a little cadre of people to make a Welcoming Committee to go down to the nearest international airport and hang out with a trolley with hot tea, biscuits, and hot towels outside U.S. Customs, with little cards saying

"We, as citizens of the United States of America, wish to apologize profusely for the actions of our government in unduly detaining and harrassing international travelers. We welcome you to our country, and hope that the remainder of your stay in the United States is a pleasant and prosperous one."

I'm wondering if I'd get arrested as a terrorist."

Sadly, I think she might.
