Well that was interesting

I attended a lovely Soiree at the home of one of the Steampunk folks I met at Windycon. He's definitely coming at it from the angle of "goths who have discovered the color brown", but he put together a wonderful guest list of artists, musicians, and other interesting folks. Once [livejournal.com profile] seamstrix and her husband left I was clearly the oldest one there, but I had a chance to chat with some very interesting people about an insane variety of subjects.

Let us observe a brief moment of silence for the last of my bottle of Old Potrero, but it was certainly well appreciated by educated palates - in proper nosing glasses. The host even pulled the empty bottle out of the trash for souvenier purposes (He is a scotch rep). There were lovely nibbles (including a wonderful English cheddar) and a nice selection of wines as well as interesting conversation.

As our host said at one point "This is the kind of thing we're supposed to be doing now that we can".

Note to self though - next time check the bus schedules before you leave. I missed the last eastbound Irving Park bus and ended up blowing $5 on a cab to get over to Clark from Western. There are many ways to get home from that neighborhood - use them.

I was just happy I was being read as 35. I had guessed our host around 32 and he's 29 so I was close. Later in the evening the Terribly-Intense-Young-Person-Vibe was pretty thick.

I never did get the nerve to ask the blue-haired young lady I was discussing Jane Austen with exactly how those piercing/bodymod things on her chest were actually attached...
