I am appalled that in this so-called "free country", congress is actually considering legislation denying civil rights to gay and trabsgendered citizens. This isn't just about "gay marriage", but would deny a lot of other legal arrangements between such couples. More info can be found at: http://www.hrc.org/millionformarriage/fmavote.html

To find out more and let your representatives know that this is NOT the way things should be, go to the Human Rights Campaign website at
http://www.hrcactioncenter.org/campaign/senate_oppose_fma/forward

Or if you'd prefer to make more personal contact, you can get contact info for your reps here: http://capwiz.com/hrc/dbq/officials/

Pleeeeease make your voice heard.

Something's screwy with those links. I always do all of the "click here and messages will be sent in your name" petitions, but I'd rather be part of a large group than write an individual letter or make a call--is there a page where I can do that?

The capwiz site should be info on how to contact your reps directly.

Hope you don't mind, but I put a link to this entry in my journal. Thank you for posting this. I've already been an active member of the HRC, but I want to get as many people involved as possible.

Had to fiddle around a bit before it would let me get to the form... but I got there.

Thanks for posting this.

I managed to get the thing sent in. For the record, better links are here for the sending messages to Congress, and here for signing their petition.

No matter who writes what to them, though, I predict that my Representative (Schakowsky) and one of my Senators (Durbin) will vote against it. The other Senator (Fitzgerald) will probably vote for it unless it's one of those personal principle things he differs from his party on, and either way, what anyone else tells him won't matter. He's very principled, which I respect; I just wish he shared more of _my_ principles.

Fitzgerald will vote for it. It's one of his principles. Durbin is actually a waffler on the whole subject, but he will vote against it.
