Some of you know that I hope to get a rabbit or two one day. In preparation, I have been dilligently reading some rabbit newsgroups to learn all I can. Reading alt.pets.rabbits in particular has been a great way to get an idea of what life with rabbits is like.
One of the regular posters has been dealing with a very sick bunny for weeks now. Zamboni had a bad case of fly-strike (maggots) and took a hard hit from the resulting toxins before they could get him stabilized. His back legs were splayed, and he was having a lot of trouble getting around. Still he was a fighter, and would make a lot of progress before sinking back again. He would drag himself around the house to try and keep up with his other house-buns.
Last week, he stopped eating. Michele finally made the awful decision to euthanize him today. As hard as it was, I think it was the right thing to do for both of them.
I have been following this little bun's story on a daily basis, checking in to see how he was doing. I never even met him, but I am so sad that he lost the battle.
Zamboni, I hope you are running and playing now on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. Your "mom" did her best for you. You will be missed.
