wendyzski: (hamster what?)
Well, I am nearly done with my first week on the new job, and nothing has blown up yet! I have made some mistakes, but at least I only make the same mistakes ONCE.
(The next time I make an entirely new and different mistake!)

Things I have learned this week:

Never delete anything.

I love freshly brewed iced green tea over ice with lemon and honey.

That little splurgle-y looking thing that appears in legal documents is symbol for “section”. However, when you say “little splurgle-y thing” to anyone who has ever worked in a legal office, they know exactly what you are talking about.

My desk eats kneecaps.

How to work with Tabs, Styles, and a bunch of other things I had no idea that MS-Word could do.

Against all expectations, I have actually met an attorney with a sense of humor. Not a huge one, but one just the same. And I work for him! (He also likes single-malt scotch)

Shred everything. Three times a day at least.

The crab cakes at the Walnut room at Marshall Fields are wonderful. However, their billing department leaves something to be desired. (We got charged for someone else’s lunch in addition to our own)

I seem to be the only one who can consistently work the key to the 24th floor Ladies Room.

Apparently, our phone number has belonged to everyone from tax attorneys to dentists. And David Duncan doesn’t work here. We don’t even know him. Really.

Lilies smell a LOT - and make me sneeze.

I can get all the way to my bank (5 blocks from my office) without ever having to go outside. There are, however, a lot of stairs in the Pedway system.

How to make the shredder explode.

Make sure the Firm Administrator goes to lunch. It’s not pretty when she forgets.

Neither of our office fridges can freeze a tray of ice cubes in 24 hours.

The mail is always late, but our UPS guy is cuuute!
There really are people who like working 10 hour days and having no life.

What the international direct-dial codes are for Geneva, London, & Taipei.

Why you don’t want to get stuck behind an elderly lady going through a revolving door.

And many many more….

Weekend plans involve sleepies, dishes, bread-baking, more sleepies, a few brief hours of Rob-snuggles, fridge-cleaning, and hair-perming. And some sleepies.
