My weekend

Well, since yesterday began with WTF WHERE IS MY MONEY!!!, I don't feel too bad that I accomplished absolutely nothing else that day. Well, aside from making homemade pretzels, that is.

Today we had a nice rehearsal - working up a version of 'Blue Peter' that is positively shiver-inducing. Rehearsals can be really funny sometimes - we all come from different musical backgrounds so even after 8 years it still can be hard to communicate some things. I hear in my head what I want to do, and then utterly fail to describe it in a coherent fashion:

  • It needs to be more daDA there, we need a..a...a something else there, you know, like a build, and ...why are you both staring at me like that?

  • what was that thing we did last week - you know, there was a thing, at the end...(waves arms about) you know?

  • I was supposed to bring the low-D whistle - I remember that - but does anyone remember what I was going to do with it?"

I do a lot of flailing at rehearsals. And jumping.

Luckily it's not just me. John had a chord that he wanted to add in, and we all somehow agreed that while it was a good leading chord, and definitely went somewhere, it wasn't the direction that the rest of us were going. I think my final verbage was "it's a right-hand turn in a left-hand song".

Then I came home, popped a loaf of spinach bread in the oven, and watched stoopid network TV.

I am starting to get into a "moving" mindset. I'm trying to be better about thinning the closets. I wore my new leather coat, and actually remembered to put the coat it is intended to replace on the giveaway table. I also put out a bunch of books that I've not read in 2 yrs and don't need to keep for research purposes. I'm trying to make my criteria for keeping something "Do I like it enough to be willing to drag it to a new place?" If no, then it gets tossed or donated. I don't actually need notes from some of my college history classes (though some of them I do), or scripts from old Moebius Theatre shows. Keeping my old issues of "The Fight Master, but I don't actually need the fight choreography notes for the fight I did in the Lombard Lilac Festival parade in the early 90s. It may finally be time to toss my old D&D stuff from high school. Keeping the manuals I still have, but no one will ever be interested in the first Adventure I ever wrote at age 16 based on 'The Dark Is Rising' books. 'Kid Genius' was a great Champions character, but I could re-create him from memory if I ever need to.

I have a CTA map folded to show roughly the areas I am considering, and I marked down the locations of all the major grocery stores on it. I also shaded a zip-code map with a rough outline of the target areas, so I'l be able to search online listings by zip. Once the weather gets warmer (at least on paper) I'll do some scouting about potential areas. I've lived in this neighborhood since the early 1990s, and I've NEVER lived more than 10 blocks from Lake Michigan. I know downtown and parts north pretty well, but am not as savvy about the NW side of the city. I have lots to learn.
