Someone upstairs is building or fixing something. It seems to involve lots of hammering.

We know this because in our office it is loud enough to disrupt conversation.

We work in an old industrial loft buiding converted to offices and condos, so the floors are a double layer of wood planks with no insulation.

Phone callers have asked me what that noise is. Our office dachshund is near-catatonic at this point and is hiding in the bathroom and barking or howling at random intervals.

I know how he feels....

1. Are you named after anyone? If so, explain.
Nope. My mom was desperate to come up withe something short to tag on to "Zdrodowski". Most of the women on both sides of my family are variations of Catherine/Kathleen except for one Stephania.

2. Do you have your children's names picked out already?
Nope - not having any.

3. If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been?
That's easy. My mom swore as a child to name her son after her beloved Uncle John. And my dad's family seems to always take father's-name-as-son's-middle-name, so I'd have been named exactly what my brother was - John Paul.

4. If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why?
I always liked Jennifer or some variant (aside from a brief Tiffany phase). I like that it can be shortened or nicknamed if I wanted to - MUCH more versatile that "Wendy"

5. Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do w/ your name constantly?
Um - DUH! There are 2-3 most common misspellings that I usually don't even point out any more unless it's on a legal form. Think it was misspelled 3 different ways for 3 years in a row in the Bristol Faire program. Other than that, it's been pretty creative over the years.

Bonus useless fact - my username/email
In college, I ran the A&O Film Board - 6 nights a week staff of 57 at the most, in 2-3 different locations around campus. As a result I had to fill out a LOT of room reservation forms at the beginning of every Quarter. Campus Activites apparently got REALLY tired of typing out my entire last name on every page, so they started using Z*ski on everything after page 1. This amused me greatly, so when it came time to pick things like e-mail etc, I used zski. I'm wendyzski on here because zski was already taken by someone in CT who likes canoeing and hiking and never writes about anything.

My ScaryPinkLuggage (tm) arrived today.

It is really closer to Pepto-Bismol pink than anything else. Whee!

But the bestest part is the "brand name" plate on each bag.

This is the sort of thing that shapes my negative opinion of illegal immigrants.

This woman now has 10 kids in a 1br apartment, and her husband makes $400 a week. Everything else they get from the state. Medical care, school lunches, everything. They have been here more than 20 years and neither speaks any English. She took fertility drugs from Mexico to conceive her triplets, and then went off her birth control and got pregnant with quadruplets!

While people I know were born and raised in this country and they cannot put food on the table. There are people on my F-list who have worked all their lives and have lost their jobs and cannot afford ANY medical or dental care.

I try not to be racist about it, but it just burns me up to see this kind of thing.

Was paging through 'Concious Choice' magazine (and making yet another resolution to get off my butt and start doing more yoga), I came across an interesting article.

It was about a paraplegic man who does adaptive yoga - he works with a specially-trained teacher to work within his body and what he can do.

There was a mention in a sidebar that "The benefits of yoga for people with multiple sclerosis are getting increasing recognition", and suggested a website called www.yogams.com

Since I have a couple of F-listers with MS, I thought I'd pass it along.
