Spent too much but it's ok
May. 19th, 2007 01:35 pmWas awakened at 7:30Am by a call from I-Go. Apparently the car i'd reserved is having problems - it wasn't unlocking for people last night. I was able to sub the Scion over at Gateway Plaza - kind of pain to walk over there but they gave me a free hour for my trouble so that's ok. Shit happens.
Tried but mostly failed to go back to sleep until my alarm went off at 9, then the usual morning ablutions and headed over to the Vogue warehouse sale. I spent more than I'd planned but it was mostly on a lovely white handkechief linen. It's VERY light and sheer, and should wash up into lovely faire smocks, and should also dye up nicely if I'm so inclined. Or if anyone wants a hunk (I have 14 yards and it's 60" wide) you can have it at my cost which was 9.00/yd plus tax.
I also got some very nice tropical linen/cotton blends for faire wear - smaller bolts so I have about enough for a kirtle or gown and something else. One is a lovely woven stripe in shades of blue (5.5 yds), a dusty green with a , open woven check in black and navy (6 yds), and a dusty lighter green solid (7.5 yds). I might dye some of that down with a blue or darker green. All of those were $3.99/yd.
As I'm also planning to take apart my old black linen overgown (too small AND the bodice has some serious wear issues), perhaps I'll re-use some of that for an overbodice for a kirtle of the check. I also have some nice deep royal brocade lying about that will also go in with this color family. And my navy flemish bodice that I made to go with my plum gown would look very nice over the stripe as well. It's like Elizabethan Grraminals!
It's been about 4 years since I made new skirts, and 5 for chemises, so I was looking to replace my basics. The linen is a nice upgrade from the cotton broadcloth I used last time. It wears like iron, only gets softer with washing, is nice and cool and wrinkles are period! After the CostumeCon in Chicago I made myself 2 Flemish gowns in linens and they are among my favorite pieces. I nearly cried when my last linen chemise finally bit the dust.
Since I spent about 50% more than I had planned to, no garage-saleing for me this weekend. I'll be good and stay home while my wallet cools. But at least I can write it all off!
I also stopped by DSW for a new pair of plain black flat office shoes, and the Sara Lee Factory Outlet for whatever was on sale and looked yummy. Tried to be nice and fill up the car before I returned it, but I could NOT figure out how to get the little gas-cap door open, and I didn't have time to go through the manual before I had to turn the car back in.
Now I'm for a little nap, then some work on the banner.
