Sep. 13th, 2007 11:51 amPlease pass the word out - Pat's e-mail is FUBARd and several people she sent contracts to have NOT gotten them. Combine that with the fact that she was on a 3-month leave of absence with a knee replacement, and you have quite the recipie for confusion
If you talked to her but never got a confirmation, CALL HER!!!
We will be there, contract is being faxed, and I'll put out word to the MM mailing list tonight

Fairies can travel at Mach 49.
Data and assumptions:
In Act II, Scene 1 of Midsummer Night's Dream, when sent on a mission by Oberon, Puck says that he will "put a girdle round about the earth
In forty minutes."
Now, as a girdle goes around the widest point of a person, we can assume that Puck is saying that he can do an equatorial circumnavigation of the Earth in 40 minutes. The equatorial circumference of the earth is pretty darned close to 24900 miles, or 40075 km. (The polar circumference is 40036, by the way. They attempted to define the kilometer as 1/10000 the distance from the equator to the pole, but some error crept in, and they didn't hit it quite. Still, as an off-the-cuff number to remember, "40000 km circumference" is a fine approximation.)
24900 in 40 min is 37350 mph, which is just about Mach 49. Therefore, fairies can travel at Mach 49 sustained for forty minutes.
Physics AND fairies!

Pepper luvs her mommy's music
Sep. 13th, 2007 08:02 pmI always thought that Pepper liked music. She really doesn't pay attention to any TV or radio music, but when I have my band over for rehearsal, she often stays in the room with is - even more so than her usual "yay visitors - do you have food?" routine, and she has always seemed to like it when I sang quietly to her.
Well tonight,
jcw_da_dmg came over so we could run through some stuff for an arts fest we're playing this weekend up in Wilmette. After the usual laps and nose nudges, she settled down on the floor between our chairs and stretched out to listen.
Now, she NEVER stretches out when I'm less than 3 ft from her - she's a skittish little fuzzball sometimes. Who knows what she had to deal with before Animal Care found her in that park.
But there she was chillin out to the music. Yay! Good to know that SOMEONE appreciates our work.
