Saw info for a new faire in MI on the Wenches Board and dropped off an e-mail to find out where to send a demo. They sent a performer application.

As part of the application, they want a $200 security deposit! Umm - no...

They say they will return it after the 2nd weekend of the show, and that it is to basically insure that people show up. Ummm - still no.

I sent off a reply stating that in more than 20 years of doing this no one had EVER asked me for a deposit, and that we can provide ample evidence of our professionalism. I asked if this was intended to apply to all performers, and requested a reply.

Sounds like a really odd way of doing business.

Oh my. I am so sorry. That was the forms suggested to us by an attorney. The forms have been corrected. There is no reason to have a security deposit. If you show/act is accepted by the committe, then you will receive a welcome letter and a contract to sign and return to us.

I do apologize. Being new, we are going to have our "wrinkles" to work out. I have attached the corrected forms. If there is anything else that looks questionable on these applications, please let me know so that I can fix it quickly for you.

Fair(e) enough! I will be sending them a demo and letter in the morning.
Glad that was cleared up and quickly too.
