Update on my little plague-bunny.
May. 16th, 2008 01:41 pmIt's been a week since Pepper was diagnosed with pasteurella, and she was put on chloramphenicol, plus a probiotic. There are small but steady signs of improvement.
She is noticably more active now, and though she still sneezes sometimes they are not as "wet" sounding as they were. Her nose is also MUCH drier. She has put on a bit of weight and adores her alfalfa (I had gotten some to mix with her timothy to tempt her appetite, but we're now down to a small handful a day). She still occasionally whistles when she sniffs but it seems her sense of smell is improving - she sniffed EVERYTHING in the apartment yesterday as if she'd forgotten what they smelled like.
This morning she actually ate all her pellets at once - it's been weeks since she took more than a few mouthsful at a time and then wandered off. I nearly cried when I got out of the shower and saw that! I even think I may have seen a small binky the other day.
She's also restarted her campaign to chew through the gate to the bedroom, and has eaten 2 pages of the latest Deadalus Books catalogue.
She's still not running the Bunny500 or bouncing on the couch, but she also no longer spends all day huddled under the furniture making sad wet noises. She even fussed when I tried to comb her last night - she grabbed the comb in her teeth and tried to yank it away from me.
