Anyone need a small furry hat?
Mar. 25th, 2009 10:15 amOne of the reasons that the sound at Monday night's gig was bothering me was apparently that I was beginning to throw a nasty ear infection. And the slight sore throat when I was done wasn't the result of not taking enough of a warm-up, it was related to the ear infection.
I realized this when I woke at 3AM in severe pain.
This was also when I realized that my heating pad had slipped behind the mattress, and thus Pepper had nipped the cord neatly off in a single bite.
Even with Ibuprofen every 4-5 hours I was contemplating stabbing myself in the side of the head with a fork because it would likely hurt less. So I called in to the doc at 9:01 AM and got a 3:15 appointment.
A damp towel microwaved produced enough heat to get me back to sleep, and when I woke a little later it was clear that SOMETHING had popped in there. The ear pain and pressure were much less but it hurt to chew and/or swallow. Clearly I now had somethign icky in my ear AND eustachian tube - oh joy.
Got to the doc and she said 'hey - you're not coughing?!?'. I told her that I wanted to give her something new and exciting to work on this time. She gave me a script for eardrops with 2 antibiotics and a corticosteroid, and a cotton ball to shove in my ear because it was cold and windy out.
GAH I hate eardrops! Still, all things considered it's probably better than the fork-stabbing. By this morning it no longer hurt every time I moved my head. It's still painful, and the gland on that side of my neck is still awfully tender, but I'm hopeful that this stuff will work. If it gets worse I can call for a "real" antibiotic.
