Proof that there is good in the world
Oct. 30th, 2009 10:14 amA bunch of internet mostly-strangers have saved a man's house and land from foreclosure.
Save_Dave has succeeded.
Most of the people who donated, bid and spread the word have never met Dave, and may never meet him. Some of them were people like sooj and bob who have been the recipient of similar fund-raising efforts who wanted to pay it forward. Many just knew that a good man was in trouble through no fault of his own and in their own ways were inspired to do something to help.
Dave still does not know that this has even happened - the reveal is tomorrow and pictures/video have been promised. Many of the auctions are still open, and any proceeds leftover after the foreclosure is settled will be donated to a local dog rescue.
I wasn't able to do more than place bids on some items, which were promptly outbid beyond what I could manage, but I'm sitting here with tears of joy in my eyes. After some of the posts I've had up here recently, it's great to be reminded that there ARE good people in this world and I know a lot of them.
