My boss finally got around to his inbox, and saw the report on the data drilldown I did last week - the one that showed that he has 33% fewer members than he thought he had.
(For the record, not only were they effectively double-counting all their corporate memberships, but because of the way the member status is handled, people are listed as "active" until they are manually changed to inactive. As a result, everyone who has not paid their 2006 renewal dues is still in there and was being counted)
There was a lot of flailing, and "how did this happen? (to which my reply was "your database implementation is insane and no one seems to have an overall idea of how the thing works"), but he eventually calmed down. He even said that he knew it wasn't my fault or anything.
A few minutes later, he came back and said "well, it's really not that bad. I mean, 891 is almost 1000, right?"
I said "Wow - can you use that kind of logic when you figure my paycheck?"
I thought the head of state chapters was going to pee herself laughing.
So, at least I still have a job. As long as I can keep them laughing, I guess it'll be okay.
