Not quite old yet

Went to the optometrist at lunch today. Yeah, my prescription needed a bit of updating.

I'm JUST on the border of needing bifocals. If I didn't get them this time I'd probably need them next time. But since some of my medications can affect vision, I decided that I want to get all those issues squared away before I get measured for bifocals.

I think the tech was disappointed in me - I kept insisting on smaller and more boring frames. Partly because I have a teeny tiny face (I have resorted to the kids frame lines in the past) but partly because purple angular frames just don't go with variable-red hair. Or at the Renaissance Faire.

I'm just not an orange-plastic-frame kind of girl....

I'm supposed to be wearing bifocals and have neeeded them for years for reading but I can never afford them.

My dad has avoided the bifocal thing by buying a pair of clip-on cheaters at Walgreens. He clips them over his regular glasses to make the same adjustment that bifocals would.

Because I objected to getting bifocals (due to potential difficulties with reading my computer screen through the "distance" parts of the lenses), I have been getting two pairs of glasses (indoors and outdoors) every time ever since. I should probably get my eyes checked again, though last time there wasn't any change...

The computer screen issue worried me too. Now I'm on a 'puter more than 8 hours/day. I will need to look into this issue further a bit down the road.

I knew I needed new glasses - not by much but I was squinting at billboards again. Plus, my current pair has a really annoying scratch on the right lens.

I'm several years into needing bifocals but apparently not very strong bifocals as my optometrist has given me 'monovision'. Sounds like the newest movie gimick doesn't it, but it's actually two different presriptions for my contact lenses- one eye for distance and one eye for close up. It took a couple of days to get used to it and every once in awhile I still get some weird visuals from it, but overall it works fine for now. If I need to do serious up-close work (embroidery or beading) I pop the contacts out and just use my glasses.

Getting old is not for sissies!

Send them my way!

I've een mourning the disappearance of large, brightly coloured frames from the choice at the optitians ever since my last loud pair bit the dust and I discovered that small wire-framed things had taken over (Ugh! they make me look like a frumpy german schoolmistress)

We can't all have your panache, darling!

Whereas I have a teeny tiny face and most "standard" frames make me look like an owl. If my eyeball is only in the inner 1/3 of the frame, they are TOO BIG.

I got my exam yesterday - I escaped bifocals this time but probally not next
