I'm OK
Just saw on the news that there was a power outage at Sheridan & Thorndale about 2 blocks from me. Two Senior high-rise buildings are blacked out but there are a bunch of cooling busses there for the residents and lots of emergency personnel on the scene.
My power is just fine - it greyed out a little bit but no real problems. It's back down to 85 inside from a high of 87, and I will again be sleeping under the AC unit. (It's only a little warmer outside, but MUCh more humid, and also a pollution alert today so I have to stay in the AC.
just heard an ambulance siren - I hope those seniors are ok.

I have to say that ComEd and the city are pretty good about things like this, especially when it comes to seniors in high-rises. Little old ladies dying in the heat makes REALLY bad publicity!
Back in the late 90s there was a blackout in parts of Bucktown/Wicker Park for nearly two weeks because of an underground substation fire. I was working in a seniors project at the time - actually my manager was on a boat on Lake Michigan for a meeting when the whole thing started, so I was running the office by myself. We had partial power (Emergency lighting and a couple of outlets in the lobby), and we and the fire dept went door to door checking people, we moved some of the residents with medical equipment to the lobby, and got 1 TV running to keep people comfy. ComEd had a generator truck in our parking lot within 24 hours, and while we had bundles of cables all over the place we were able to keep the elevators and AC running through the whole thing. Not fun, but no one died or was even hospitalized!
Even on the news last night they showed that there were Air Conditioned CTA busses there so residents could cool off, and some were being taken to cooling centers. The hardest part is often to convince seniors to actually leave their apartments!
I think they are working on it, as my power fluttered twice while I was getting ready for work.
