For the LOSTies
Even the ones not playing TLE...
The most recent part of The Lost Experience has been about collecting and assembling fragments of a video that would "Blow a hole right through The Hanso Foundation". The last fragment was released today, and one of the guys on the clue blog I frequent has posted the completed video on YouTube.

The first part of it explains what the Island was and how and why it was founded, what the Dharma Initiative was and what "the numbers" mean.

Mr. Ponytail (Thomas Werner Mittelwerk), who has taken over The Hanso Foundation since the mysterious disappearance of Alvar Hanso, has apparently decided that by selectively killing 30% of the world's population he can save humanity. If whichever core value of the equation that represents population is radically changed, then the equation can't be solved/fulfilled.
The girl shooting the video is Rachel Blake, who has been the main point-of-view character in TLE - first by "hacking" The Hanso Foundation's website to show that THF isn't as shiny as they say, then by actually going to Europe to "investigate" THF, and then by getting this video out. She also showed up in person at ComicCon and interrupted the LOST case & producers panel by raising a ruckus about The Hanso Foundation before being removed by security.
There has been some fun stuff going on - codes have not only been found online but in the real world - posted on a bridge in Australia, on a car in CA, on the Jumbotron in Times Square (at a day and time you had to figure out), hidden in magazine ads, on a wristband worn by "Hurley" at ComicCon - even on Jimmy Kimmel's coffee mug on Wednesday night's show!
There have also been a ton of organizational screwups, especially in this last phase with the Apollo Candy bar giveaways, and there are some piece of "evidence" that don't add up and had to be changed when people caught them on it. A LOT of awfully smart people were playing this game. I especially liked the people who figured out who the actual important characters would be by looking for and finding the "stock" shots on Getty Images. Not a stock photo, then it HAD to be taken for the game.
My big contribution was during a phase where we were looking for an island that matched a photo "found" by Rachel. We had 2 candidates, one near Sri Lanka and one in Canada. I argued against the Canadian one based on my knowledge of Great Lakes shipping routes - the ship that was supposedly transporting some secret equipment could not possibly have gotten through the St. Lawrence Seaway. Turns out that I was right - hence the Sri Lanka video. I was also in the early hunt for some of the THF website hacks though I was never the first one to solve any of them. It's been a fun way to kill time at work this summer.
