Not really New Years Resolutions per se

Though I liked
cadhla's idea of New Month's Resolutions - to take things in smaller bites as it were.
One thing I have sort of been pondering for a while is to find other people to hang out with. I loves me my GR peeps but it's true that we get into a comfort zone always seeing the same people. So I decided that I want to make an effort to hang out and socialize with other people. I KNOW lots of you local folks but it seems that I never see any of you outside of conventions. Let's do something!
Everybody says they want to "get in shape" for the new year", but it's something I've been working towards for a while. The first step has been working towards getting my asthma back under control. That's been a real struggle, especially since that awful bout of bronchitis in October. It's hard to get excited about working out when you start coughing after walking up a flight of stairs on teh way to work. My usual "just walk more" isn't going to work when the dry winter air gives me fits as soon as I go outside.
However, I noticed that there is a yoga studio about a block from my office that has a special 10 classes for $100 offer. That's reasonable, and doesn't lock me into some kind of expensive committment. They have a Yoga Basics class at 5:45 on Thursdays (I work till 5:30) so I could retrench my fundamentals, and it's also likely to be accepting of my physical limitations (possible breathing issues and an old hip injury).
So hopefully I can get both of these things started and have a healthier and growth-filled 2007.

Date: 2007-01-04 11:15 pm (UTC)She's been working with me as well, and I love doing it... I broke down and actually cried because i was EXCERCISING and it felt GOOD instead of me feeling like i was going to choke to death on my own lungs. I was so relieved to find excercise that didn't HURT!!!

Date: 2007-01-04 11:26 pm (UTC)My problem is motivation. I have none. I have a mat, some homemade leather hand things (i have very sweaty palms) and a couple of cds and dvds but I've done nothing with them. When I have a class and I know people will ask about me if I don't show up I do much better. But then I had all that time of unemployment and couldn't afford classes. I did a couple of one-off sessions at conventions but pretty much settled back to sitting on my increasingly-larger ass.
I'm hoping this is convenient and affordable enough to jump-start me into regular practice again.
