I just made gingerbread pod-people.

In my wanderings the other night I got a "gingerbread men" kit on sale for like $2. Some mix, some sprrinklies, a cookie cutter, and instructions. So I decided to make them up tonight.

At first I thought it was unfair that they were all boyz, so I thought about putting little icing boobies on them or something. But then I had some trouble getting them from the countertop to the pan, and then some more trouble getting them from the pan to the cooling rack.

They are sad awkward-looking mutants. One has a really skinny smooshed-looking head, while several others have missing or misshapen limbs. One apparently had an air bubble in the re-rolling process, so it appears to have some kind of abdominal tumor. And I don't know what to say about the poor little guy whose head came completyely off.

I then totally gave up on the actually-decorating-them idea, and have settled for just slopping some plain white icing on them. So now they are faceless atomic mutants, ready to leap off my countertop and destroy the world!

Good thing they are also tasty. *munch*

Gingerbread men are notoriously dicey. Did you use parchment?

No. I'd never actually made them before, so it didn't occur to me. The second sheet's worth actually came out much better. Well except for the poor headless one.

Parchment is a must. Given a choice, I use it for pretty much everything. when i got it.
