One interesting thing about having a neb treatment 1st thing in the morning - I no longer need coffee! The albuterol-jitters are sufficient to wake me up without any extra caffeine. I've not had anything stronger than black tea all week.

Been on the Duo-Neb (albuterol and an anticholinergic) 2-3x/day since yesterday. I feel MUCH better. I'm able to breathe deeply again, and have had several episodes of coughing out things that have been waaaay down in my lungs for waaaay too long. Gross but very relieving.

Downside is that my lungs are still very twitchy and easily irritated. Did some sewing on a friend's coat last night - she has cats but they don't directly contact the coat - and I had an awful coughing episode - had to get up shortly after going to bed to take another treatment which then kept me awake for another 2 hours. Upper chest was still sore and sting-y when I woke up, and then I fell asleep on the couch and woke up at 4 so my sleep schedule is terribly off now.

bleh.

But I have some of my homemade turkey soup thawing, and a stack of library books, and no need to leave the house till tomorrow afternoon so there is no reason why I can't spend the rest of today resting quietly and letting things heal again.

you could try asking your physician about diluting the albuterol with an equal amount of saline. that's what my folks did for me when I was younger, and though it makes the treatment take longer, it does tend to lessen the negative side effects.

my heart rate never hit 120 when I was little, but after my treatments these past few days, it's been about 120 bpm.

I had the same thing when I used the same meds w/ a neb for an emergency treatement last summer. Not fun. I totally sympathize.

I was also going to mention earlier (but forget) that you may want to gauge your heart rate before/after pure albuterol treatments for a week or so, and discuss it with your doctor. Sometimes, it can make your heart go waaaay too fast.

Just lookin' out for my wheezy Wendy. (((hugs)))
