My hard drive on my desktop workhorse seems to be dying a slow and noisy death. It may have one more start on it but maybe not. And of course, I am notgood with backups.
So I'm replacing the system. It's an 8yr old E-Machines from Best Buy, and I've replaced or upgraded many of the major parts once already, including the hard drive. Time for a new one.
I scored a pretty good deal from the Dell Outlet - for $359 I'm getting a decent system with quadruple the hard drive space and double the (upgraded) RAM of my current system, plus CDRW and DVD-ROM drives and a modem (which doesn't always come standard any more). I already have the monitor, printer, etc, so getting a retail bundle with all that stuff again would be silly. But most importantly, it still has XP on it. I'm not ready to deal with Vista yet, and have not yet seen any compelling reason to have to learn.
I'm not a huge Dell fan, but for a purchase of this size I wanted a little more reassurance then getting someone's old system off CraigsList - this has a full 1yr warranty w/onsite service.
It ships today, and I should have it by next weekend. So if anyone needs some basic stuff (keyboard, mouse, sound card, etc) for their ghetto-tech system, let me know.
