Yeah, all one of you...But I have a lot of people who KNOW people in NJ.

It's been 20 years since I lived there, and being as I was in high school I didn;t travel too much.

An office-mate is going to the NYC area in August, and is staying at the Homewood Suites in Cranford, about 8 miles from Newark.

Aside from the basic shabbiness that is Newark, anyone have any area knowledge good or bad?

I tended to stay out of the area, or I'd tell you more. Most of my experience is *outside* of the 287 ring...

Cranford's not too bad. The downtown part of Newark is pretty safe and
there are a few restaurants there; they're mostly hotel places though.
One recommendation: Don Pepe's, which is on McCarter Highway (aka Rt
21). Spanish (as in from Spain) cuisine and very yummy. There are a lot
of restaurants in the Ironbound district (particularly Portuguese,
Mexican and Indian). Ironbound is mostly safe but I wouldn't go
trailblazing off of the main drags for more than a block unless in a
car.
